More about Vicky Chetwood (also known as George)

My Role in Scouting: I've been the Cub leader here at Fram for 3 years. As well as being part of Fram I have been involved in the organisation of many large camps such as Eurojam, the World Scout Jamboree 2007 and this year I was a Subcamp leader at the Centenary of Sea Scouting Camp in Nottingham. I have also just been selected to be part of a team of 4 leaders to take the Durham Contingent to the next World Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. What I do outside Scouting: I teach Maths at a School in Darlington. Many people think I'm mad but I do actually love Maths! I also enjoy swimming, camping, climbing and walking. Why I do Scouting: I get asked this many times....especially by fellow teachers at School as I spend all day with young people and then go home and voluntarily spend my free time with them! But crazily enough I enjoy working with the young people and seeing them do things that they would probably never get the opportunity to do if they were not part of Scouting. Taking them away on camp, although hard work, is also really rewarding! I started out in Guiding when I was 7. I moved through Brownies, Guides and Rangers and achieved my Queen's Guide Award and my D of E Gold Award. When I was 18 I moved to Durham to study Engineering and joined DUSAGG (Durham University Scout and Guide Group). In my early days I ran a Brownie pack but gradually I moved over and began to do more Scouting. And so, here I am. Being part of Scouting is being part of one huge international family. Going to the World Scout Jamboree with 40 000 people, all of whom are fellow Scouts from nearly every country in the world, is an incredible experience that is almost impossible to describe.
